Our two-week Foundation in Global Leadership course is designed for ambitious students who want to make a meaningful impact in the world. This immersive experience introduces students to global affairs, international relations, and the complexities of leadership in an interconnected society. Through interactive sessions and real-world simulations, students gain a foundation in the skills needed to navigate global challenges with empathy and strategic thinking. Course Objectives
Foundation in Global Leadership is an innovative programme for students aged 12-16 who are passionate about making a difference. At Eton College, we understand the importance of nurturing young leaders who are informed, empathetic, and prepared to tackle global challenges. This course introduces students to leadership, international relations, and social impact, providing a foundation for those who wish to become thoughtful, effective leaders.
Introduction to Global Issues and International Relations
Leadership Skills and Ethical Decision-Making
This module focuses on essential leadership skills such as effective communication, ethical decision-making, and the ability to motivate and influence others. Students will explore different leadership styles, learning how to adapt their approach to various situations and cultural contexts. Practical exercises, team activities, and real-world scenarios will help students build confidence and resilience in their leadership journey.
Social Impact and Community Engagement
In the final module, students will explore how leaders can drive social impact and create positive change. They’ll learn about social entrepreneurship, civic engagement, and project management, discovering how to design and lead initiatives that address community and global challenges. This hands-on experience culminates in a project where students apply what they’ve learned to a real-world issue, gaining insights into the responsibilities of global leadership.
Time to Shine
For their Time to Shine project, students will step into the role of a global leader, tackling an important international issue or designing a plan for social impact. Whether they’re creating a peace-building initiative, proposing sustainable economic policies, or designing a community outreach project, students will present their ideas in a high-stakes setting, pitching to a panel of their peers and instructors.
Examples of past projects include:
Youth United for Human Rights: Fostering Respect and Responsibility Across Borders – A project where a student developed an initiative to promote human rights awareness among young people, focusing on collaboration, education, and advocacy.
This project provided students the opportunity to push boundaries, apply scientific principles, and showcase their skills in the STEM. It developed the ability to innovate, analyse, and think critically about the ways STEM can be a powerful force for change.
