Course Objectives

This course is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles of psychology and sociology. By the end of the programme, you will have developed the skills to analyse social behavior, understand psychological processes, and critically evaluate societal issues. This course is ideal for students interested in pursuing careers in psychology, sociology, social work, or related fields.

Module 1: Introduction to Psychology

Introduction to Psychology

This module offers a foundational understanding of psychology, focusing on the study of human behaviour and mental processes. You will explore key topics such as cognitive development, personality theories, and abnormal psychology. Through case studies and psychological experiments, you will gain insights into how individuals think, feel, and behave, and how these processes are influenced by biological, social, and environmental factors.

Time to Shine Project

For your Time to Shine project, you will undertake a research project that explores a topic at the intersection of psychology and sociology. This project will culminate in a presentation where you will demonstrate your ability to apply theoretical concepts to real-world social issues. Examples of past projects include:

Faculty of Social Sciences FAQs

How challenging is the course?

The course is pitched at quite a high level of challenge, but our teachers are encouraged to differentiate learning materials in order to teach mixed-ability classes.

What level of English is required to take part?

For this course, participants must have a minimum level of B1.

Do students receive a certificate?

Yes. Each student is awarded with a certificate of completion during our graduation ceremony and letter of reference at the end of the programme.

Do students need to buy coursebooks?

A variety of SBC handouts are provided for all students, which were designed by our own academic team.

What do students need to take to class?

Notebooks are provided. But students should have their own pens.

Do students need to do any pre-course preparation to take part?

Not usually, but if they are then students are notified in advance as part of their welcome pack.
